GERMANY: Emerson has introduced a new range of Copeland CO2 scroll compressors with smart electronics and new integrated Dynamic Vapour Injection (DVI) technology.

A new range of refrigeration units based on this cutting-edge CO2 scroll technology and specifically designed for small to medium sized shops will also be introduced in Europe.

Emerson says the technology provides a new solution for CO2 booster systems that enables reduced system complexity and costs while keeping efficiency high in any climate.

The new generation of CO2 scroll compressors are said to be smaller, lighter, and more cost-efficient than compressors traditionally used for booster systems. In addition, the new integrated Dynamic Vapour Injection (DVI) technology replaces the need for parallel compression keeping the system’s efficiency level high.

Three ranges of scroll compressor are being introduced, covering transcritical (medium temperature) and subcritical (low temperature) operations and offering fixed and variable speed models.

The ZTI medium temperature fixed speed range covers a capacity range from 8 to19kW.

Equipped with a dedicated brushless permanent magnetmotor, the ZTW variable speed models cover capacities from 4kW to 36kW.

In addition, Emerson offers two compressor ranges for low temperature applications, ranging from 6 to 15kW and covering fixed and variable models extending capacity up to 27kW. One range for subcritical applications operates with a standstill pressure of up to 110bar, the other works with a standstill pressure up to 45bar.

The new generation of Copeland CO2 scroll compressors includes a suite of smart electronics, integrated in an efficient and reliable solution for CO2 booster systems that provide CO2 refrigeration from 25 to 100kW MT.

According to Emerson, this Copeland CO2 scroll solution allows for applied cost savings up to 14% and seasonal efficiency gains up to 8% compared to other commonly used CO2 booster compression technologies.

The new Dynamic Vapour Injection technology injects vapour refrigerant directly from the flash tank (or from an economiser) into the scroll compressor via an injection valve. According to Emerson, this eliminates the need for parallel compression, making CO2 refrigeration systems less complex while delivering higher efficiency.

Removing parallel compression means less system components, such as parallel compressor, inverter drive or piping, are required. This not only simplifies the system design but also reduces costs for investment, operation or maintenance resulting in a lower total cost of ownership. In addition, Emerson says the new Copeland CO2 scroll technology can be applied to any climate zone, requiring only one single design for CO2 refrigeration.

The new Copeland XC Pro system controller monitors, collects and analyses a wide range of system data, including remote diagnostics, predictive maintenance and performance analysis.

The new CO2 scroll compressors are employed in a new range of refrigeration units in capacities from 10kW to 50kW. They are specially designed for medium temperature applications in small and medium sized supermarkets, convenience stores and groceries shops.

Emerson has put a strong focus on easy and flexible installation to create a range which it says is lightweight, extremely compact and optimised for silent operation.

Of modular design, they can be installed packaged or split, indoor or outdoor giving maximum flexibility for the target application. A gas cooler that can be positioned horizontally, vertically and stand-alone opens further possibilities in installation.

Co-op store proves Copeland CO2 capability – 19 September 2021 UK: The European roll-out of Emerson’s new Copeland CO2 scroll technology for transcritical booster systems follows a successful 18-month trial at a Co-op supermarket in Malmesbury, Wiltshire. Read more…
